Castello Bonomi

The treasure chest of Franciacorta, between time and respect.

Castello Bonomi takes its name from the splendid Art Nouveau castle designed at the end of the 19th century by architect Antonio Tagliaferri.
The contemporary winemaking turning point came in 2008, when the estate was acquired by the Paladin family.

The Paladin family launched a major project to enhance both the vineyards and the cellar, entrusting the technical direction to the historic chef de cave Luigi Bersini, who is supported today by a team of renowned oenologists. The philosophy of Castello Bonomi is encapsulated in two key concepts — time and respect — which guide an agronomic approach that has always focused on sustainability and biodiversity protection, backed by organic certification. The winery firmly believes in the value of longevity and in the ability of Franciacorta to express its full potential only after exceptionally long aging on the lees, far exceeding the minimum requirements of the production regulations. The true secret behind this excellence lies in the power of the Monte Orfano terroir, located in the far south of Franciacorta, where around 24 hectares of terraced vineyards wind along its slopes. This area stands out for its unique, ancient calcareous conglomerate soil, distinct from the morainic nature of the rest of the region, and enjoys an exceptional microclimate. Shielded from cold winds and kissed by warm currents, it is the warmest zone in Franciacorta. Here, the grapes ripen earlier, imparting extraordinary mineral intensity, sapidity, and an ideal acidic backbone to the wines, ensuring an extraordinary aging potential.

A reverence
for time.

Castello Bonomi’s production method is founded on the strictly manual harvesting in crates of Chardonnay, Pinot Nero, and Pinot Bianco grapes, followed by parcel-by-parcel vinification that enhances and preserves the identity of each individual vineyard. This is combined with a masterly use of wood, where a portion of the base wines ferments in barriques to add structure to the cuvée without ever overpowering the natural expression of the fruit. Finally, the time factor crowns the entire process through cellar aging that ranges from a minimum of 30 months to over 10 years for the great reserves.
